New York has a very unique climate, summers are hot
and winters cold and the temperatures rise and fall sharply between
these two seasons. During the summer months the temperature can be
very hot and often hits the mid to late 20 degree Celsius mark. |

The high buildings of New York can also trap the heat in the streets and avenues and this can make the temperature uncomfortable in high summer. Winters are to the other extreme and temperatures drop dramatically to below zero, this does however provide a unique feel and when the ice rinks open and central park is snow covered there is a very special feeling in the air especially on the run up to Christmas. |
No matter what season you go in or how extreme the temperature it is always easy to escape the weather by visiting one of the many sights, attractions and shops. In the heat of summer another great escape is to take to the water on one of the great boat tours, the climate is much more pleasant from the harbour. Below is a table giving average temperatures and rainfall throughout the year. |
